The Palatine Celtic Soccer Club was founded in 1968 by Bill Hughes and Jimmy Kinsella, a transplanted Scotsman. Together, they were the first people in Palatine to organize local children into teams to play the game of soccer. Jimmy named the Club after his home club, Glasgow Celtic.
The Palatine Celtic Soccer Club is affiliated with the Palatine Park District and provides youth soccer programs for girls and boys ages 4-18. Many of the players on the William Fremd and Palatine High School varsity soccer teams have played either recreational and/or travel soccer under the Celtic banner. Palatine Celtic Soccer Club is also home to The Celtic Cup Labor Day Tournament featuring over 400 teams.
The House Program is designed to provide a venue for the recreational soccer player to learn fundamentals while developing confidence, sportsmanship, and cooperation. The House Program hosts about 85 teams ranging from U6 thru High school for both boys and girls. The year consists of two seasons consist of approximately 6-8 division games that begin the weekend after Labor Day with girls' games on Saturdays and boys' games on Sundays.
All house teams will participate in the Jimmy Kinsella House Fall Tournament at the end of October. The spring season begins in mid April (weather permitting) and continues through early June.
The goal of the House Program is to provide players of all skills and abilities an opportunity to learn the game of soccer along with other children their age. The teams are formed based on age, grade, and ability with an equal number of players rated appropriately by their coaches from the previous season. The Competitive Program mission is to provide a player-centered development program for all players to reach their fullest potential while creating a passion for the game of soccer. We strive to be the best community based club in the Northwest suburbs. Our soccer philosophy will create confident people both on and off the soccer field. The Celtic SC Philosophy incorporates a player-centered approach that develops the Celtic player with the technical mastery and the soccer IQ to become skillful, creative players on the soccer field.
The competitive program consists of 30 teams playing in competitive travel leagues, IWSL (girls) and YSSL (boys). Our highest level teams will compete in state and regional leagues hosted by the Illinois Youth Soccer Association. Our team begin at the U7 age group and extend to the U19 age group. U7-U15 Boys and girls teams play an August-June schedule while our high school players, U16-U19 typically play either August-February (girls) or November-June (boys).
All Celtic competitive teams are coached by USSF and NSCAA licensed coaches who often have collegiate and, in some cases, professional playing experience. We have partnered with world renowned Celtic FC to provide our players and coaches with the best opportunities possible to reach their goals. Their assistance in coaching education will compliment an already robust in-house coaching education platform. Many former Celtic players have continued their soccer careers in NCAA Division I, II, III, and NAIA college programs.
